Employee feature: Julie Hays

This Administrative Professionals Day, we’d like you to meet Julie Hays, our beloved Receptionist and Administrative Assistant!

Can you describe a little bit of what you do as a receptionist/administrative assistant?

I focus on creating an outstanding first impression for all client communication and supporting the SPACE team in any way I can! This really involves any number of things from A to Z, and of course, includes making sure we have all the absolute necessities of office life (like copy paper, coffee and French Vanilla creamer…) 🙂

How long have you been with SPACE and how did your career path lead to SPACE?

I have worked at SPACE for 13 years! Before coming to SPACE, I had worked as a medical transcriptionist then became an office manager. When SPACE’s co-founder Kathie Fuce-Hobohm originally hired me, it was to work for another company she and her husband Bob had started. When that company closed, I stayed on to work at SPACE.

What has been the most enjoyable aspect of your time with SPACE?

The really FUN parts, like when we all get together as a group and do something different from the normal work-day, are definitely the most enjoyable. I have also been able to organize and decorate for many of our events throughout the years, and my creative side has always been very pleased to do that!

What is something people may not know about administrative professionals?

Administrative professionals need to know a wide variety of seemingly “little” things. However, these little things add up to important things that make the office run more smoothly.

In your opinion, what is the future of design — and how will SPACE be able to help?

It seems to me that the future of design is going the way of everything else: people want what they want, and even what they don’t know they want! We all want to shop, live, and decorate in a way that satisfies our tastes and aligns with our values. SPACE is able to help because:

  1. We provide a wide variety of offerings.
  2. Our designers know how to bring a client’s vision to life, and/or give them something beyond what they imagined.
  3. SPACE is passionate about living out our company’s core values and helping our clients live out theirs.

Fun facts about Julie:

  • My dog, Tebow, is the official SPACE mascot and comes to work with me every day.
  • I am a bee-keeper and sell honey locally.
  • I have traveled to 15 different countries.
  • I have done bike tours through the Czech Republic, Austria, New Zealand, and Nova Scotia.
  • I own a baby blue race car and participate in local races.
  • I am taking Flamenco dancing lessons.

Okay, only one of these facts is actually true about ME personally, but they are ALL true about my co-workers. The people at SPACE are an amazing, talented, and creative bunch!

PERSONAL DESIGN STYLE: Mid-century modern with some bohemian thrown in for color and texture.
